acdc is a UK based lighting company which designs and manufactures specialist long-life LED lighting solutions. Our professional team offers technical and design advice to architects, engineers and lighting designers worldwide.
Since the company’s inception we have been committed to innovation and design. Historically, the company’s original strength lay with long-life cold cathode lighting, but in more recent times a significant interest and investment in LED technology has led the company into an exciting and rapidly developing market.
acdc were approached by Lumileds Lighting (a joint venture between Philips and Agilent technologies) with an incredibly bright LED light source which was truly ground breaking. This development was significantly brighter than previous LED outputs, potentially opening the door to the architectural lighting market. Significant also was the roadmap for the future, with the potential to eclipse many traditional light sources, both in terms of power consumption and light output. Lumileds were looking for a number of relatively small yet innovative lighting manufacturers who were able to take the product to market within a quick timeframe and unleash the products potential to the world. acdc’s understanding of architectural lighting and developing high specification project solutions made the company an ideal partner for development, and the rest is history.
The Company’s dynamic group of directors purchased the company as part of a successful management buyout, a move which further focused acdc on developing into a major player in the LED field.
The Company moved into a new 30,000 sq ft purpose built office and manufacturing facility, with the aim of continuing their rapid expansion. acdc currently has over 60 distributors shipping to over 50 different countries, from Ireland to Iceland; Australia to America, and our export business represents a substantial percentage of the company’s business.
acdc had an exceptional year which saw a number of significant internal changes. These included a management buyout and creation of a new board of Directors whose joint goal is to develop acdc into a major European player within the architectural lighting market.
April saw acdc undertake a rebranding initiative to reposition the company within the lighting industry; and assert their presence as genuine global leaders in LED lighting solutions. The renowned Light + Building exhibition in Frankfurt (the largest and most respected in the industry) saw the official launch of acdc’s new brand positioning and made a bold statement to its competitors, taking acdc to the next level.
Also in April, acdc were awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade. The Queens office confirmed that outstanding achievement in overseas earnings, which saw acdc achieve an overall export growth of 90% from 2009-2011, was a key factor in being awarded this prestigious Royal accolade.
As part of acdc’s ambitious growth plans, research indicated that a London base was an essential element to its future success for many reasons: A large proportion of international specifications come out of London and having a flexible and stylish demonstration space to showcase products whilst offering a central base to host important project meetings was therefore vital. To this end, acdc opened its London Studio in July.
acdc’s global strategy also recognised the need for a presence in Asia Pacific. Although there were already distribution partners in these areas, a central base and local acdc representative would enable the company to strengthen existing and develop new relationships with key customers to generate more local sales. In September acdc opened its Dubai office and appointed a Head of International Sales to be based there; his key task is to concentrate on opportunities in the Middle East, Far East and India.
Over the course of the year, acdc’s design and technical teams researched the LED marketplace to identify new product opportunities and found a gap in the retail sector. Subsequently acdc developed 3 new LED product ranges specifically designed for retail applications, which were officially launched in November 2012.
acdc are a globally recognised brand working on many of the world’s most prestigious and luxurious projects, providing outstanding products and service to designers across the world. acdc continue to maintain the highest quality standards, manufacturing and assembling products in the UK, delivering a product of outstanding quality, not only at initial installation, but also throughout the lifetime of the product.
