Aberdeen is home to a new state of the art office space. The building is aptly named due to the number of vertical aluminium fins cladding all elevations of the tower element of this impressive building. This decorative metalwork combined with the granite frames catches the light making this building instantly recognisable for all to see.
The 132,000 sq. ft. building spreads over nine floors of open plan office space, a dramatic four storey reception space, five 17 person passenger lifts, 140 underground car parking spaces and it boasts stunning views across Aberdeen City Centre and beyond. (Who wouldn’t want to work there?)
acdc and parent company Zumtobel were chosen to supply the lighting for this impressive £65 million office development. The vision was to set new standards of Grade a office accommodation combined with contemporary architecture. The criteria was extremely stringent for this energy saving building, M&E Consultants Tüv Süd in conjunction with Architects Cooper Cromar were approached to design and specify the lighting, with installation of the lighting carried out by Infrastructure Group Balfour Beatty.
Behind the new contemporary Scottish granite façade lies an expansive entrance lobby with a four storey atrium providing views up to the office tower above. Our very own Orelle Pro was chosen to make the coves glow throughout this stunning reception space. Its continuous lines of light invite and guide visitors into the space, bringing their attention to the height and outline of Aberdeen’s newest business lounge. Orelle Pro (as you can see) brings a new dimension into the entrance of the building giving it its own character and personality. (We know how to make an entrance)
Our slim line linear luminaire delivered more than 1100 lumens per metre with what can only be described as superb 80 or 90 CRI colour rendering (you decide) and with 2 step macadam process everyone was confident the lit effect was smooth, beautiful and even across the whole project. There are a choice of outputs – standard bright or extra bright giving you a choice with outstanding light to size ratio. (They may be skinny but they’re strong)
Orelle is one cool dude, its built-in heat sink technology maintains a cool LED junction temperature. (No hot head here!) This low glare luminaire is available with a number of accessories for reducing glare, the flexible connector allows the light to follow shapes and curves (so flexible a gymnast would be jealous)
The specified lighting utilised Zumtobel’s latest generation of Mellow Light V chosen for its unrivalled efficiency and impressive design for the new Grade B office space. Its style coupled with its superior lighting technology that achieves a light output ratio of up to 96% with very low glare. Mellow Light is characterised by its special lighting effect and uniformity, with a choice of three optics: These fittings were specified with a special RAL colour to harmonise with the ceiling. (You won’t know they’re there)
Zumtobel’s Slotlight and Panos downlights work with Orelle Pro to welcome visitors into the building with its uniform illumination within the reception area. Slotlight provides flexible uniformity at the highest level, using LED lighting points that can have any spacing pitch and the visual benefits are achieved by its continuous-row system illuminated uniformly from beginning to end. In terms of economic efficiency Slotlight is a role model, with a service life of 50,000 hours and incredibly low maintenance.
Panos downlights blend seamlessly into the surrounding décor with compact proportions. Temperatures can be adjusted to suit individual preference and supply a constant quality of illumination. Panos has a highly efficient passive cooling system, a 50,000 hour life and future-proofing though it’s modular cartridge system. (The images speak for themselves)
